Located on the Brussels-Namur road, Gembloux is a French-speaking town in the Province of Namur. The municipality of Gembloux has 25,800 inhabitants. A church and a monastery were built on the site of the present town in the 10th century. The monastic community occupied the monastery until the French Revolution. The belfry of Gembloux has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 2005. Gembloux took its place where it is now when Saint Guibert built a church and a monastery. The monastic community of Gembloux had to flee during the French Revolution, which soon reached our country. The buildings of the former Benedictine abbey are now occupied by the Agro-bio Technology section of the University of Liege. On the folklore side, we can mention the 6h brouette, organised by the University's student committee. The town of Gembloux is twinned with the town of Epinal in France.
