Namur is a French-speaking city in Belgium, capital of Wallonia since 1986. It is also the capital of the Province of Namur. The city of Namur is located at the confluence of the Meuse and the Sambre. The precise point of intersection between the two rivers is called the Grognon. This configuration has been occupied since the Neolithic period. Former stronghold of the Counts of Namur, Namur is today the Walloon capital, and hosts the seat of the Walloon Parliament as well as the Walloon government. With a river port, close to a major road junction between the Mons-Liège and Brussels-Arlon motorways, Namur is a city on the move. On the outskirts of Namur, in Naninne, is one of the largest industrial areas of the province. The city of Namur is the host of many events during the year the year, such as the International Francophone Film Festival, the Festival d'Arts forains Namur en Mai, the KIKK festival and the Verdur Rock (which takes place on top of the Namur citadel).
