Wavre is a city in Belgium located in Wallonia, more precisely in the Province of Walloon Brabant. The city of Wavre has 34,200 inhabitants and has merged with the municipalities of Limal and Bierges. Located in the Dyle Valley, the inhabitants are called the Wavriens, but also the Macas. To be called Maca, one must be born in Wavre of parents who were themselves born in Wavre. From a historical point of view, Maca refers to the statue of a young boy climbing the façade of the Town Hall. This statue is said to bring good luck if you caress its buttocks. An important economic centre in the Province of Walloon Brabant thanks to its business centre and two economic activity zones, you can also find the very famous amusement park, Walibi. Among the famous people born in Wavre, we can mention Maurice Carême, the poet, as well as Soeur Sourire, born Jeanne-Paule Deckers. The mayor of Wavre is currently the Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel.
